• Concept + pattern design

When I do my pieces, there's always at least one challenge built in. For the raven it was successfully balancing on two slender legs with wings outstretched as if in the midst of singing a mighty aria.

In this case the armature was fairly complex because even the wing and tail feathers had slender wires so they could be posed expressively.

The raven's tuxedo collar, bib and spats were made using raw silk fabric laminated onto a polypropylene base – then cut and edged with gold cord.

Finally, even the glasses were made from scratch. I used pre-cut acrylic discs from Tap Plastics for the lenses. The earpieces and nose bridge were fabricated from brass rod.
